glimpse of Davao Davao
is a province capable of arousing interest or curiosity. The cultural
diversity and traditions; the mountainous region marked with rolling
hills and fertile valleys. The alluring waling-waling orchid, the
intriguing endangered Philippine Eagle. The harmonious relationship
between its neighboring provinces influenced by ethnic and cultural
ties have made Davao the window to the island of Mindanao.
In the early stage ethnic tribes lived together harmoniously, in
peace and friendship like the Bagobos, Mandayas, Manobos, Mansakas
and Tiboli. It is known that they are the ones that gave the province
a name from the word daba-daba, now Davao. It is because of its
abundance of natural resources Davao has also attracted neighboring
provinces and settlers. Despite its differences in culture and tradition
people have live together in peace and harmony.
Davao
is a melting pot for all culture; its invigorating surroundings,
the piece of history, the diversity of culture and tradition, the
gathering and festivities like the Kadayawan Festival makes Davao
City inviting and exciting to visit. Just ask the Dabawenyos.

CULTURE
The
solemn rituals of the tribes, their rythmic dance steps and chanting
music. are intimately interwoen with the rich customs and traditions
of migrants. There are two mainfestivals, the Araw ng Dabaw celebration
every March and the Kadayawan Fesitval in August.

GEOGRAPHY
Davao
City is the capital of Region XI or the Southern
Mindanao region of the Philippines. Considered as one of the
fastest growing regions in the country, it consists of the
provinces of Davao, Davao Sur, Davao Oriental, Surigao del
Sur and South Cotabato an the cities of Davao and General Santos.

City is considered the world's largest city in terms of land area
which is 2,443.6 square kilometers. It has an estimated population
of 1,006,84 accounting to 19% of the entire Southern Mindanao region.
It is the second biggest urabn market within the East ASEAN Growth
Polygon.

ECONOMY
Investments
in Davao City are on the upsurge. In terms of value, 1993 saw a
phenomenal growth of 3,420% over 1992. While in 1995, the number
of projects saw an increase of 191% over 1994.
Davao continues to be the top exporter of Region XI exporting to
major world markets such as Japan, the United States of America,
the Middle East, and Europe.
Davao is fast industrializing. Recent trends show that is economy
is steadily moving away from agriculture towards value added processing
activities. An indicator of this is energy consumption. At 18%,
the industrial sector accounted for the highest growth rate in 1994.
